The Government of India inaugurated the e-Tourist Visa scheme- External Website that opens in a new window on November 27, 2014, to 43 nations from nine approved Indian Airports to make travel to India hassle-free and unforgettable for foreign tourists. 

The government included Guyana and Sri Lankan nationals in this program in January and April 2015, respectively. Nationals of 31 countries can now use the e-Tourist Visa facility- External Website that opens in a new window.

Eligibility for e- Tourist Visa for India:

  • Travelers from abroad whose only reason for visiting India is leisure, sightseeing, a quick stopover to see friends or family, a short medical procedure, or a quick business trip.
  • A passport should be valid for at least six months from entry into India. At least two blank pages in the passport must be available for the immigration officer to stamp.
  • International travelers should have a return ticket or onward ticket and enough cash to cover their expenses while in India.
  • Passport holders from Pakistan or those of Pakistani ancestry should apply for a standard visa at the Indian Mission.
  • Holders of diplomatic or official passports are not eligible.
  • Individuals endorsed on a parent’s or spouse’s passport are not eligible; each person needs their own passport.
  • Holders of international travel documents cannot use this service.

Rules for an e-Tourist Visa India 

  • Online applications from citizens of the countries who qualify must be submitted at least four days before the intended arrival date and within 30 days. 
  • The applicant must upload a recent front-facing photograph with a white background and the photo page of their passport, which contains personal information, including their name, date of birth, nationality, and expiration date. 
  • An e-Tourist Visa for India costs US$ 60 per traveler, not including interchange fees for credit and debit cards. Your application won’t be approved if the fee is paid at least four days before the anticipated travel date.
