Review Banana Republic Factory Roundup 2023

The wave of discounted outlets, factory and outlet stores that are coming to Philly appears to have at least for the moment been slowed down. There is now several retail stores which have glowed from the moment they opened (see: Century 21, Bloomingdale’s Outlet, Primark) or failed (Bloomingdale’s Outlet, Nordstrom Rack).

One of my favorite aspects that I do is driving around town and stopping by shops to see what’s happening and so I was delighted to get out in the sun and go towards the Banana Republic Factory Store, that opened at Chestnut Street back in 2014. I was determined to find out whether the store had become better well-organized from the last visit and also to see what the store had on offer.

I was pleased to find that outlets have improved its efficiency. It’s still fairly equally divided between women’s and men’s including the complete back area specifically for smaller sizes (hurrah! ).

Each rack is marked to tell you the amount you’ll save on each item (most products I saw were between 40 and 70 percent cheaper than retail) But you’ll need to figure out the calculations yourself, as prices aren’t adjusted (which can be annoying).

I could only find the smallest selection of clothes in the women’s section that I would actually put on like these (wrinkly) linen jacket ($43.99) and these culottes that are silky ($35.99). Banana Republic is generally thought of as a spot to find appropriate dress for job interviews. You’ll find a variety of serviceable items such as blazers and formal-looking dresses however the quality isn’t great and the fashions are outdated or, at minimum, dull.

However, I did find that the products to be priced too high considering the poor quality, such as this top made of perforated polyester (above left) originally $49.99 or this black tank with a tissue-like texture (above right) initially $39.99. Even at 50 % off it’s just not worth the price.

The prize for top-of-the-line in the women’s section is the navy-blue dress ($32.99) it’s the more feminine version the power suit. The most sexy among the females award goes to the t-shirts with graphic designs ($14.99) that were priced too high and a bit off-brand.

The men’s section for men is filled with stylish workwear basic items, including slim-fit pants and button-downs ($38.99) and some tie options. Some of the top items in this section include the blazer with a wooly winter design ($101.99) and the complete casuals section (severely absent in women’s) filled with knits and Hoodies that your friend will surely be tempted to take.

Etites has a selection of pants that can be worn by slimmer ladies and stylish designs taken from the women’s. There are also a few designs that are unique to petite women such as military-inspired jackets, and some loungewear made of cotton.

The conclusion: The men’s and small sections are the true top performers, while women’s selection is abysmal.
