New Stimulus Checks Continue to Be Announced. Which one will you get?

Key points

  • A fourth stimulus payment has not been authorized by the federal government.
  • Numerous states offer payments to residents.
  • Many states have recently announced plans for more funding.

Many Americans are struggling to cope with the financial fallout from the COVID-19 epidemic. The pandemic’s disruption of the supply chain is one major reason for the record-breaking inflation that is currently threatening many people’s finances.

Despite the continuing effects of the pandemic the federal government hasn’t authorized the fourth stimulus update. This is the bad news. Good news is that states are increasing their efforts and additional direct payments to bank accounts are very common. In fact, almost half the states have already made out money or will soon.

Why are new stimulus checks being announced every day?

Recent announcements by lawmakers from Pennsylvania and New York indicated that additional stimulus update money would be soon distributed. New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that a $270 payment would be made to 1.75 million New Yorkers by party leaders. In Pennsylvania, Governor Tom Wolf made surprise stimulatory payments in excess of $1,657.50.

These are only two examples of recent situations in which states have provided funding for those in need. Because states have received billions in federal funds through the American Rescue Plan Act, this has become a common practice. This was the act that President Joe Biden signed into law in March 2021, shortly after he assumed office. It provided $1,400 in stimulus update checks for people all across the country.

States that have received all this money have budget surpluses. Many have decided that the best way to make the most of these extra funds is to direct the money to the poorest residents.

How do you determine if you are eligible for another stimulus payment?

Each state issuing a stimulus update check has its own rules. This is why it is important to stay up to date with the Department of Revenue in your area to see if you are eligible for money and what you need to do to get it. To check if any payments have been made and the rules for claiming them, you can usually visit the DOR website.

You can ensure that any money you are entitled to is coming to your door by keeping an eye on the state stimulus update programs in your area. The federal government won’t likely issue another check anytime soon so the state relief funds may be the only form of additional assistance from lawmakers.
