Benjamin Andrew Stokes OBE (born 4 June 1991) is the captain of the England Test team and an English cricketer who plays for the England Twenty20 International (T20I) team. In national cricket, he represented Durham and played for the Rising Pune Supergiant and Rajasthan Royals India. He has played in several Twenty20 leagues including the Premier League. 

Ben Stokes was born in New Zealand and moved to England as a child. He debuted in his T20I in 2011, made his Test debut in 2013, and played for the England team during his One Day International (ODI) from 2011 before retiring in July 2022. After he scored the most goals in England’s innings in the final, he batted in a super over for Thailand and was awarded the Man of the Match award. 

He was named Wisden’s Leading Cricketer in the World for 2019 and 2020 and won the 2019 ICC Awards for Best Male Cricketer and BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. In April 2022, he was appointed captain of his team for the England Test. He was part of England’s side that won the 2022 T20 World Cup and scored the most goals in the final. An all-rounder, Stokes is also a left-handed center fielder and a fast right-handed bowler. He held the Test world record for most runs in an inning in his sixth place and scored 258 goals against South Africa during his England tour in 2015-16.

Stokes was born on 4 June 1991 in Christchurch, New Zealand to rugby league player and coach Gerald Stokes (known as ‘Ged’) and is of Māori ancestry. Stokes moved to England at the age of 12 after his father was appointed head coach of his Workington Town rugby league club, and grew up in the small town of Cockermouth in West Cumbria, attending Cockermouth School and becoming a coach at Cockermouth.
